Dude-Suit.Net update

Yesterday, Oct 12 had a raid controller go bad on the server. So the site is down for the moment

Hopefully should have back up and running soon, may be over the weekend. Since one of the drives is showing bad plus the raid controller out of commission it's gonna take a little while to order the new adaptec controller card, set it all back up, reload the software, and load the backups.

Will post updates here.

Update: is back online!
The raid controller card on the server died and also took 2 drives with it. Replaced the card and the 2 drives and got everything back up. For now...

Dude-Suit.Net was started around 1998 hosted on an old slackware linux box in a small studio apartment.
Around late 2001 early 2002 I moved and never got around to renewing the domain.
Now approximately 10 years later and with a lot of luck the old domain is back up and online.
Only time will tell what happens now.

Couple New Tracks

In my previous post I discussed my new "toys" in the world of midi music creation and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software.

So I've been playing around and testing different sounds and learning the software. The software I'm using is Ableton Suite 8.

The midi controller I am using is the Akai LPK25 keyboard.

In the previous post I posted a link to my new Soundcloud account I created for the sole purpose of showing off some of my amateur music creations.

I have 3 tracks on my soundcloud but the first 2 were primarily test tracks, short 1 to 2 minute tracks designed for testing and learning Ableton software and getting used to the new controller.

As of early this morning, roughly 2 am, I finished my first full length track. Still very amateur and still so much to learn in Ableton, but I thought this came out pretty neat.

It's a dance track I just call "Cito" since I use the name Cito a lot in online personas, and I suck at coming up with a name.

New to the world of MIDI

I've played instruments most all my life, even during my college years. But I have just now recently jumped into the world of MIDI. I still have my electric guitar, few percussion instruments an old Tama drum kit, etc. But I thought that I would finally give this midi stuff a try.

Since I just wanted to "get my feet wet" so to speak I ordered myself an Akai LPK 25 midi controller I do plan on getting their Akai LPD 8 Controller next though.

I also picked up a couple different DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software but for now have chosen to play around with Ableton Suite.

Ableton does so much it's hard to wrap your head around it in such a short time, but while I had the weekend to watch a few basic tutorial videos to get you started along with reading forums and such when package arrived from UPS today I was able to start playing around with it all in no time.

I setup a Soundcloud account so I can occasionally upload new junk I am working on. Just beware it's all just works in progress or sorta a "notebook scratch pad of ideas" so to speak. As I use this to learn the software and what I can and can't do.

You can visit my Soundcloud and check out any tracks I may be messing with by going here.

PS3 Jailbreak

Sony just doesn't seem to learn that Jailbreaks have been ruled legal for the mobile phone world and will soon be ruled legal for the console world as well.

from Slashdot

"Sony is threatening to sue anybody posting or 'distributing' the first full-fledged jailbreak code for the 4-year-old PlayStation 3 gaming console. What's more, the company is demanding that a federal judge order Google to surrender the IP addresses and other identifying information (PDF) of those who have viewed or commented about the jailbreak video on a private YouTube page. The game maker is also demanding that Twitter provide the identities of a host of hackers who first unveiled a limited version of the hack in December."

The Jailbreak itself is all over the net and it's far too late to try and put the proverbial genie back in the bottle.

A quick search on bing, google, yahoo and others all come up with easy instructions and the link to the ps3 jailbreak (3.55)

1 example

Links to the 3.55 Jailbreak

How to Jailbreak PlayStation 3 on 3.55

(NOTE: Must already be on OFW 3.55)

1. Copy PS3 folder to a USB.
2. On PS3, Go to Network Settings and DISABLE Internet Connection.
3. Plug in USB and go to System Update> via Storage Media
4. Select OK
5. After installation, turn PS3 back on and you should have an *Install Package Files folder under GAME
6. (optional) Select Install Package Files and install the test.pkg. you should see the image above.
7. You can now ENABLE Internet connection. PSN works with no problems.

This is the first step. Within a few days or weeks there should be Homebrew apps such as Emulators and what not to enjoy. Backups do not work as of yet but def in the near future.

Big thanks to Geohot for making all of this possible

And that's all there is to it. Multiple copies everywhere just 1 search engine search away.

Slow Blog Updates

I've been lacking in the blog updates lately. Recently had surgery to fix a blockage I had in my kidneys so I have been a bit apathetic with the blog. I have been toying around with an idea of scrapping this thing and actually moving to a full hosting with my own domain name. I had a domain and site I used to run in the late 90's that was fairly interesting, so it's an interesting thought to toss around at least.

At least for now I'll continue posting interesting videos, the various odd news story, and occasional blog updates and see where things lead me.
